CUHKOrdinance 369 An Ordinance to repeal an d replace The Chinese University o f Hong Kong Ordinance, to repeal the Chung Chi College Incorporation Ordinance, the Board of Trustees of The United College of Hong Kong Incorporation Ordinance and the New Asia College Inco rporation Ord inance and to make new provision concerning the Chung Chi College, The United College of Hong Kong and the New Asia Co llege, to mak e pro vision f or Shaw College, and f or p urpo ses connected therewith. WHEREAS — ( a ) TheChinese University of Hong Kong was established and incorporated in 1 963 by The Chin ese Univ ersity of Hong Kong Or dinance as a University with a federal constitution; ( b ) the original Colleges of the University are Chung Chi College, New Asia College and The United College of Hong Kong; ( c ) it is considered desirable that some of the powers and fun ctio ns conferred on the said Colleges under their respectiveconstitutions and Ordinances should be vested in The ChineseUniversity of Hong Kong and that the principal role of the said Colleges be the provision of student- orientated teaching und er the directio n of The Ch inese University of Hong Kong; ( d ) it is also con sidered desir able to make certain alteration s in the constitution of The Chinese University of Hong Kong; ( da ) the Council of the University has, by special resolution, resolved that Shaw College shall be a constituent College of the University; ( e ) it is declared that The Chinese University of Hong Kong, in which the principal languageof instruction shall be Chinese, shall continue to — (i) assist in the p reserv ation, dissemination, communication and increase in knowledge; (ii) pro vide regular co urses of instru ction in the humanities, the sciences an d other branches of learning of a standard required and expected of a University of the highest standing; (iii) stimulate the intellectual and cultural development of HongKong and thereby to assist in promoting its economic and social welfare: [24thDecember,1976] T he Chinese University of Hong Kong Ordinance (interpreted in accordance with the provisions of the Hong Kong Reunification Ordinance No. 110 of 1997) Preamble.
