CUHKOrdinance 399 13. The University may award diplomas and certificates — ( a ) to studen ts wh o — (i) have attended an approved course of study; (ii) have passed the appropriate examination or examinations; and (iii) have comp lied in all o ther respects with th e req uiremen ts prescribed therefor; and ( b ) to persons other than those pr ovided for in subparagraph ( a ) ab ove who aredeemed by the Senate to possess the qualification appropriate for the award of such diplomas an d certificates prov ided that such person s — (i) have pursued acourse of study therefor at oneor more educational institutions in Hong Kong reco gnized f or this p urpose b y the Senate; and (ii) have passed the appropriate examination or examinations of the University. 14. Subject to the right of appeal from the decision of the Senate to the Council and fr om the decision of the Council to the Chancellor, the Senate may deprive any person who has been convicted of an arrestable offence or who in their opinion has been guilty of dishonourable or scandalous conduct of any degree,diploma, certificate or other award of the University. STATUTE 27 Examinations 1. Examin ations of th e University qualifying in any subject of study for a Bachelor’s degree or a higher degreeof the University shallbe conducted by a board of examiners which shall consist of — ( a ) 2 ormore internal examiners who shall be teachers in the subject of the examination; and ( b ) save as provided by paragraph 3, one or more externalexaminers who shall notbe members of the academic staff of the University and who shall not have taken part in the teaching of the candidates. 2. The board of examiners shall have the duty to ensure that examinations are properly conducted and the assessment is fair and consistent. 3. Upon the approval of the Senate the requirement in paragraph 1 ( b ) shall not apply for examinations qualifying in asubject of study for a Bachelor’s degree, and one or more visiting examiners who shall not be members of the academic staff of the University and who shall not have taken part in the teaching of the candidates shall be appointed for the subject by the Council upon the recommendation of the Senate or in the case of emergency by the Vice-Chancellor. 4. The visitin g examiner or examin ers shall — ( a ) call for at his or their discretion the examination scripts of all or any, butnot lessthan one-third, of the examinations qualifying for the degree in the subject for which he is or they are appointed; ( b ) submit to the Vice-Chancellor an annual written report; and
