UndergraduateMedicalStudies 433 Medical Year 1 (First Professional Examination) 5.3 Medical Year 1 students shall be assessed on the following: (a) Course requirements prescribed by the Selected Study Modules. (b) Co urse requirements p rescrib ed by the Skills Mo dules (Clinical Methods, Communication Skills and Life Long Learning Skills). (c) Course requirements prescribed by GeneralEducation courses including Health and Society. (d) Professional Knowledge consisting of: (I) Knowledge-based assessments (50% of overallfinal marks) of the three system blocks (i) Human Structure (ii) Foundation Studies (iii) Cardiovascular-Respiratory, Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Homeostasis, Musculo-Skeletal The final mark for Professional Knowledge is composed of: a. Continuous assessment (25%) in any format throughout the year as and if consider ed appropriate by the system pan els involved in first-year teaching. b. End-of-panel assessment (75%) (II) Integrated assessment (50% of overall finalmark) to be held at the end of the year. Overall pass in Professional Knowledge requires: 1. At least 50%achieved in the averagemark of the final knowledge- based assessment and integrated assessment; 2. At least 40% achieved in the knowledge-based assessmentof each system panel and integrated assessment. 5.4 SupplementaryExamination and remedial arrangements (a) Students who do not satisfy the requirements prescribed by the Skills Mod ules and the Selected Stu dy Mod ules shall be r equir ed to do remedial work within a prescribed period. (b) Studentswho do notsatisfy thecriteria for passing the individual system panel assessments and/or the integrated paper in the first attempt shall be required to take the relevant supplementary examination (passmark 50%) in August. 5.5 Promotion to Medical Year 2 Students who have passed the First Professional Examination by satisfying the following requirements shall be promoted to Medical Year 2: (a) having satisfied the course requirements of Selected Study Modules; (b) having satisfied thecourse requirements of the Skills Modules (Clinical Methods, Communication Skills and Life Long Learning Skills); (c) pass in Health and Society; and (d) overall pass in Professional Knowledge; or, for those who are required to sit for sup plementar y examinations, pass in each supplementary examination. Medical Year 2 5.6 Medical Year 2 students shall be assessed on the following: (a) Course requirements prescribed by Selected Study Modules.
