446 Part 7• University Ordinanceand Regulations or institution of higher learning recognized by the Senate shall have been not less than four years. 3.5 A student shall take courses at this university in his final term. 3.6 A student shall complete all requirements for graduation within six years from his first registration including any periods of leave of absence and suspension of studies. 4.0 Course Requirements and E xemptions 4.1 A student shall complete at least 123 units of coursesbefore graduation. 4.2 A student shall be required to complete before graduation the following requirements: (a) the required units of major courses as prescribed in the study scheme concerned; and (b) 15 units of General Education courses as prescribed by the University, the Faculty of Education, and the college to which he is assigned. 4.3 Except for the PhysicalEducation and Sports Science Programme, a student shall also complete before graduation two units of Physical Education courses, to be taken in his first year of attendance. 4.4 A student may reg ister for on e minor progr amme as appro ved by the department/faculty of his major subject. Aminor programme shall require 15 to 30 units of courses. 4.5 Under special circumstances, a student may apply to thedepartment/faculty of his major subject for permission to register for two minor programmes. 4.6 A student who has failed in any required course shall retake that course or take a substitute course prescribed by the Board of theFaculty of Education. 4.7 A stu dent with recognized qualifications may be exempted from some courses and/or units required for gr aduation according to the procedure prescribed. Subject to the requirements given in Regulations 3.4 and 3.5, no studen t with such exemp tions shall be allowed to graduate unless he shall have: (a) comp leted at least two -th ird s of his majo r req uiremen ts at th is university; and (b) completed at least two- thirds of h is min or requiremen ts at th is university, if he wishes to graduatewith a minor. 5.0 Ac ademic Probation and Discontinuation of Studies 5.1 AcademicProbation (a) A student shall be put on academic probation if he has obtained a grade point average of below 1.5 in the preceding term unless Regulation 5.2 applies. (b) A student on academic probation may be required to take a reduced load and his performance shall be reviewed at the end of the term in which he is put on probation, at which time if he has obtained a grade point average of 1.5 or above, probation shall be lifted, otherwise probation shall continue to apply in hisnext term of attendance unless he is required to discontinue his studies as prescribed by Regulation 5.2 or he has completed all gr aduation requirements as set out in Regulation 6.1.
