AssociateStudents 479 9.3 Notwithstanding Regulation 9.2 above, an IASP studen t taking a course offer ed by the New Asia-Yale-in-China Chin ese Langu age Centr e may within two weeks after the beginning of the teaching term, app ly to the New Asia Yale-in-China Chinese Language Centre to have his assessment result in that cour se reported on a pass/fail basis. The course grade for a student who has taken this option willbe either ‘pass (PA)’ or ‘fail (FA)’, and willnot be included in the calculation of the grade point average. 9.4 A stu dent who has gain ed a ‘pass’ or ab ove in a course shall ear n the unit/s of that course. 10.0 Ex amina tions 10.1 Course Examinations A stud ent shall take course ex aminations, if prescribed by the teacher/s concerned, in the fo rm of wr itten, p ractical or oral assessment, or any combination thereof. 10.2 Absence from Course Examinations 10.2.1 A student who for medical or other compelling reasons is unable to sit fo r any cour se examin ation , sh all app ly in writin g with documentary evidenceat the earliest possiblemoment but not later than 10 day s after the examination con cerned to the Registrar/ Director of Academic Links for permission for absence. In the case of illness/injury, the application shallbe accompanied by a certificate signed by a registeredmedical practitioner. 10.2.2 (a) A student who is absent from course examination/s and whose application for absence is successfulmay be otherwise assessed atthe discretion of thedepartment/programme/graduatedivision concerned. (b) A student who is ab sent fr om an y examinatio n witho ut permission shallbe given a grade of ‘F’ for that examination. 11.0 Transc ripts 11.1 A student may apply for an official transcript giving details of all courses taken and grades obtained. 11.2 The off icial tr anscript shall n ot be issued to a stu dent or any priv ate individual. It shall be sent direct to an institution or a prospective employer upon payment of the prescribed fees and postage. 12.0 Disciplinary Action 12.1 A stu dent who violates any ru le or regulation an d/o r commits any misconduct such as: (a) defamation of or assault on or battery against theperson of any member of the University; (b) wilful damage to or defacement of any property of the University; (c) theft, fraud, misapplication ofUniversity funds or property of any kind; (d) plagiarism in written assignments or cheating in tests or examinations; (e) an offence in connection with examinations or violation of any of the regulations of the Senate governing conduct at examinations;
