94 Part 3 • Research Units and University Extensions With the growth of economic activities in the region, particularly the potential for growth of air passenger and freight traffic in and around Asia, there is now an urgency for better public policy considerations in this area of economic development. Providing academic and professional views on this dynamic industry is the mission of the Aviation Policy and Research Centre, a research centre established in August 2004. The primary focus of the centre is placed on aviation related issues that will impact the immediate and the long term development of Hong Kong, Greater China, and the Asia-Pacific Region. The aim is to help improve evidence-based public policy-making and management of aviation related resources. Seminars are also held on a regular basis.
