The Hong Kong Centre for Evidence Based Nursing is one of the 23 associated centres of the Joanna Briggs Institute in Australia. Each collaborating centre plays a key role in promoting evidence-based practice in their own areas. Its objectives are to increase public awareness and understanding of bedwetting, inform parents and young adults of where they can go for professional help, encourage mutual support among patients and their family members, reduce stress associated with bedwetting, promote research on the causes and treatment of enuresis, and to facilitate exchange of ideas and updating of knowledge with overseas experts and international institutes in enuresis research. The centre provides a telephone hotline service for the public. It also has a website with information pamphlets including a guide to enuresis for parents and teenagers. The pamphlets can be downloaded from the website or obtained via mail on request. In addition, interested parties are welcome to join the ‘Friends of HKERIC’ and receive their regular newsletter. Members of the foundation include local and overseas clinical and scientific personnel involved in diabetes research and management. The missions of the foundation include: • the establishment of scholarships and awards for both clinical and basic scientists in Hong Kong and mainland China to conduct research in diabetes and related diseases; • collaboration with leading academic institutions and other international organizations to develop research and development programmes in diabetes and related diseases, including the scientific use of traditional Chinese medicine; • the organization of scientific meetings and training courses to promote academic exchange between local and overseas investigators; • the development of evidence-based disease management programmes and the evaluation of their cost-effectiveness in health care delivery.
