The establishment of NNPRU is to promote excellence in nursing practice through education, research and the development of innovative nursing interventions and care for patients, clients and their relatives. In essence, the NNPRU will be the ‘model unit’ where clinical guidelines, clinical pathways, and clinical technological and resource innovations (e.g. nurse-coordinated care) are developed, implemented, evaluated and disseminated to other health care settings in Hong Kong. Novo Nordisk Diabetes Mellitus Clinical Trial Unit (NNDMCTU) Tel.: 2632 3221 Fax.: 2647 3859 E-mail: ccf193chow@cuhk.edu.hk The NNDMCTU was established in May 2001 under the sponsorship of the Novo Nordisk Asia Pacific Clinical Development Centre. The first of its kind in Asia, this unit is dedicated to conducting phase II and III clinical trials of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) quality on various diabetes-related new treatment modalities. It is headed by an honorary director from the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, and is staffed by a full-time clinical officer and two research nurses. This unit can potentially complete at least 120 trial cases of international standard per year and would contribute significantly to identifying the best treatment for local diabetes patients.
