452 Part 7 • University Ordinance and Regulations STATUTE 20 Appointment of Academic and Senior Administrative Staff 1. There shall be Boards of Advisers which shall make recommendations to the Council concerning the appointment of academic and senior administrative staff. Recommendations concerning the appointment of academic staff shall be conveyed through the Senate. 2. The Board of Advisers for each appointment of Professor, Reader and Senior Lecturer shall consist of — ( a ) the Vice-Chancellor, or a deputy appointed by him, who shall be Chairman; ( b ) one member of the Council appointed by the Council, who is not a member of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( c ) 2 members of the Senate, appointed by the Senate, who are not members of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( d ) the Head of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( e ) the Chairman of the Department or head of the unit in which the appointment is to be made, except that no such Chairman or head shall serve on a Board that is concerned with a post senior to his own post; and ( f ) 2 external experts. 3. The Board of Advisers for each appointment of Lecturer shall consist of — ( a ) the Vice-Chancellor, or a deputy appointed by him, who shall be Chairman; ( b ) one member of the Council appointed by the Council, who is not a member of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( c ) 2 members of the Senate appointed by the Senate, who are not members of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( d ) the Head of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( e ) the Chairman of the Department or head of the unit in which the appointment is to be made; and ( f ) if considered necessary or desirable by the Council, one external expert. 4. The Board of Advisers for each appointment of Assistant Lecturer shall consist of — ( a ) the Vice-Chancellor, or a deputy appointed by him, who shall be Chairman; ( b ) one member of the Council appointed by the Council, who is not a member of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( c ) one member of the Senate appointed by the Senate, who is not a member of the College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( d ) the Head of College to which the appointee will be assigned; ( e ) the Chairman of the Department or head of the unit in which the appointment is to be made. 5.
