The Constituent Colleges 91 Morningside College and S.H. Ho College The Morningside Foundation and Morningside Education Foundation Limited have donated a total of HK$100 million to establish the Morningside College, which can accommodate 300 students on a fully residential and communal dining basis. The S.H. Ho Foundation Limited has donated HK$170 million to establish the S.H. Ho College, which can accommodate 600 students, also on a fully residential and communal dining basis. The two new colleges have a common mission to foster an intimate and collegial community where students learn, share and grow together intellectually; to maintain a congenial environment for students to enjoy their college life; to provide pastoral care and whole-person education, including general education; and to broaden and internationalize students’ perspectives through formal and non-formal education programmes. Morningside College has a special vision to cultivate among its students a commitment to serve the community of Hong Kong, China and the world. The S.H. Ho College seeks to nurture a commitment to personal responsibility and integrity, enabling its students to make useful contributions to society after graduation and to lead productive lives. Two scholars of international renown — Nobel Laureate in economic sciences Prof. Sir James Mirrlees, and world authority on plant molecular biology and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Prof. Samuel Sun — have agreed to serve as Masters of Morningside and S.H. Ho College respectively. They were appointed Masters-Designate in August 2006. A Planning Committee for each College has also been appointed and planning work has already begun.
