Since 2004–05, the programme is broadened and enhanced to include two streams of study, namely, the automation stream and design stream. The automation stream emphasizes modern automation technologies, including control, robotics, signal processing, manufacturing, and sensors and actuators. The design stream emphasizes product design, multimedia technologies, graphics, and the use of various computational tools. The enhanced programme allows students to learn the inter- relation between technology and design, and provides an opportunity for them to pursue subjects of their interest in individual areas. Graduates will appeal to the job market with their solid engineering background and technological vision. Graduates of previous years have taken up jobs in automation, design, electrical, electronic, industrial, or mechanical engineering, as well as hardware construction and installation, information systems administration and management, or system maintenance. Graduates may also pursue postgraduate studies in the department for MPhil or PhD degrees specializing in one of the subject areas. Its computer science programme leads to the BSc degree while its computer engineering programme leads to the BEng degree. The department possesses the most up-to-date equipment for teaching and research. Currently, both programmes obtain the accreditation from the HKIE. The undergraduate syllabi provide a solid foundation in information technology, linked with training in practical applications of these ideas through projects and laboratories. The Programme in Computer Science covers software engineering, computer networking, Internet, databases and multi-media technology. The
