It provides skilled personnel, high-power computer hardware and sophisticated software packages, to Hong Kong’s research scientists and techno-entrepreneurs, with the aim of advancing biotechnological research as an academic pursuit or commercial venture. Its homepage is hyperlinked with universities, industries and communities worldwide. The centre also offers technical expertise in bioinformatics as well as molecular biology-oriented database development. Hong Kong Centre of Sports Medicine and Sports Science Tel.: 2646 1477 Fax.: 2646 3020 E-mail: whoctr@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://www.cuhk.edu.hk/whoctr Established in 1991, the centre is operated by the Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology in conjunction with the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education and the Hong Kong Sports Institute. Its objectives are to promote and conduct research in sports medicine and sports science, to promote and conduct related educational programmes, to provide professional expertise and advisory support to the sporting community, and to facilitate liaison and interaction with sports medicine and sport science institutions in other parts of the world. The centre was designated as the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre for Sports Medicine and Health Promotion in 1996. Its activities involve the participation of the Department of Community and Family Medicine and the School of Public Health. Materials Science and Technology Research Centre Tel.: 2609 8276 Fax.: 2603 5558 E-mail: leol@phy.cuhk.edu.hk Established in 1992, the centre provides a base for interdisciplinary and collaborative research on materials. Activities include the analysis of the structure and properties of advanced materials, the development of applications for new materials, and the synthesis and processing of new materials. The centre aims at achieving excellence in materials research and serving the needs of local industries.
