It consists of a molecular biology laboratory and a clinical trial centre located at the Sir Yue-kong Pao Centre for Cancer and the Li Ka Shing Clinic respectively. Activities of the centre include: • conducting basic laboratory research on the pathogenesis of viral hepatitis; • conducting clinical trials on the treatment of viral hepatitis; • training of postgraduate students; and • educating patients and the general public about the disease. Chinese Language Teaching Development Centre Tel.: 2609 7074 Fax.: 2603 6048 E-mail: chilan@cuhk.edu.hk To develop IT in Chinese teaching and to meet the needs of a new era, a Chinese Language Teaching Development Centre was established by the Department of Chinese Language and Literature in collaboration with the Department of Computer Science and Engineering in 1999. The centre has since devoted much attention to developing electronic teaching materials on Chinese teaching and has set up the Bowen Website ( ) (http://bowen.chi.cuhk.edu.hk ), which is highly popular with teachers and students. Chinese Opera Information Centre Tel.: 2603 5098 Fax.: 2603 5273 E-mail: corp@cuhk.edu.hk Website: http://corp.mus.cuhk.edu.hk Established in March 2000, the Chinese Opera Information Centre (COIC) is operated by the Cantonese Opera Research Programme, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, and commissioned by the Hong Kong Arts Development Council. The centre is an open archive to the general public. The collection of the centre focuses on materials relating to Chinese opera, especially Cantonese Opera, but also holding materials of various regional opera genres such as Peking opera and Kun Opera, etc. The centre currently contains over 66,000 items, including libretti, scripts, house programmes, leaflets, posters, newspaper clippings, photos, audio-visual materials and correspondences, etc. Users can make use of the centre to carry out relevant research and study. To enhance people’s interest in Chinese opera, the centre offers various services and organizes activities to satisfied the needs of organizations, schools and interested parties. It also publishes newsletters carrying special features and articles for research purpose.
