Given that MIS techniques will be the future trend in all surgical disciplines, the centre is set up to train surgeons to equip themselves with this fast- developing technology and to develop products, new techniques and applications to facilitate the effective implementation of this new surgical philosophy. The centre has laboratory-setting MIS training facilities, including a surgical skills laboratory, a virtual reality laboratory, state-of-the-art endo-surgery operating theatre suites, a stimulated operation room, a robotic surgical system, a microsurgical and endoscopic skills laboratory and a seminar room, all linked by teleconference facilities. The centre is thus in a position to serve as the regional hub for research and development for MIS technology. Dementia Research Unit Fax.: 2667 1255 E-mail: psychiatry@cuhk.edu.hk With an increasing ageing population, dementia care has become a pressing issue for many countries. The Dementia Research Unit of the Department of Psychiatry was set up in 1998 to organize and promote research in this area. To promote early awareness of cognitive impairment in the older population, a website with on-line cognitive screening and information for public education has been developed (http://www.editcog.hk ). The unit invites local and international collaborations. Its research focus is the genetic, epidemiological, and clinical aspects of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia. Dermatology Research Centre The Dermatology Research Centre was established in early 2005 and is strongly supported by Social Hygiene Service of the Centre of Health Protection, Department of Health. Its main objectives are to conduct research in the various fields of dermatology, and to organize dermatology courses, conference or symposium for the local community. Regular activities include teaching of medical student at the University, holding a yearly CUHK Dermatology Symposium, and conducting dermatology research on a project basis. It also runs two specialized clinics at the Prince of Wales Hospital: The Hair and Nail Clinic and the Cutaneous Oncology Clinic. The latter is a joint function with the Department of Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy, PWH. The Dermatology Research Centre seeks further collaboration with other medical subspecialties and to promote exchange with dematologists from other parts of the world.
