Ho Centre in 2005 . It aims at carrying out research on various aspects of the ageing process, the implication of an ageing population in Hong Kong, and measures to deal with the consequences. The centre provides undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in areas of vital importance in health care and social welfare in Hong Kong, and will further develop its network with other local, mainland, regional and international organizations to facilitate exchange of expertise and ideas. The departments which participate in the activities of the centre include medicine and therapeutics, community and family medicine, psychiatry, orthopaedics and traumatology, nursing, sociology, social work, and psychology. Li Marine Science Laboratory Tel.: 2609 6773 Fax.: 2603 5391 E-mail: bio@cuhk.edu.hk The Marine Science Laboratory was established in 1970 under the Department of Biology as a research centre for advanced studies in marine science. Current research is focused on the physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology of marine animals, especially that of fish and shrimp, in relation to fisheries and mariculture. Another major research area is the biology and ecology of planktonic and coral reef organisms in the waters of Hong Kong and southern China. The laboratory is equipped with research and teaching laboratories, an air- conditioned aquarium, equipment and instrument rooms, and a seminar room. It is also equipped with a recirculatory seawater system, more than 30 indoor and outdoor culture tanks, and a speed boat. In 2002, the laboratory was renamed the ‘Simon F.S. Li Marine Science Laboratory’ in recognition of Dr. Simon Li’s generous donations in support of the University’s development.
