Academic Units and Programmes of Studies 129 Part 3 Other Programmes Intensive Programme in Putonghua, Cantonese and English All students in their first year of attendance are required to complete an Intensive Programme in Putonghua, Cantonese and English. The purpose of the Programme is to provide an opportunity for students to strengthen their ability to consult dictionaries for the correct pronunciation of individual characters or words. The Programme will provide a key for students to more advanced language courses offered by various units of the University and to promote among themselves an awareness of the importance of language ability. Physical Education Physical Education is the required programme which emphasizes the development of personality and health through teamwork and fair play as well as the acquisition of basic motor skills and attitude towards physical activities.
