University Extensions 131 Part 3 exchange arrangements with the University. Exchange students are exempted from paying IASP programme fees. They are responsible for tuition of their home institution, and hostel and other exchange related fees at the University. Study abroad students pay a comprehensive IASP programme fee which covers tuition, on-campus shared accommodation and related expenses, and orientation expenses. IASP serves as the home department to both exchange and study abroad students. From January 2006, the School has been renamed as the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCS). Bearing the mission of providing quality continuing education programmes and services to meet the changing needs of society, the school offers a diverse range of programmes at different levels. In 2006–07, over 2,000 courses were offered with a total enrolment of over 40,000. Programmes offered by SCS can be broadly categorized into general courses and award-bearing programmes. General courses, normally lasting two to four months each, have no specific admission requirements, and are self-enrichment in nature. Since 1979, SCS has been offering award-bearing programmes at higher diploma, advanced diploma, professional diploma, diploma, and certificate levels. These programmes have specific entrance requirements and are designed in accordance with the guidelines and standards set by the University to provide academic and professional qualifications for those who wish to enhance their skills and knowledge in their particular fields of study.
