The College has expanded in the last few years with the completion of the Si YuanAmenities Centre, the Chan Chun Ha Hostel which could accommodate 314 students, and the Si Yuan Amphitheatre. To build up a smoke-free and environmental friendly campus, United College conducted an improvement project including redesigned the landscape, relocatied carpark and paved project, etc. TheAdam Schall Residence and Hang Seng Hall underwent major renovation and spatial re-organization in 2007. In 2007–08, a total of 2,751 students were assigned to United College, of whom 1,316 were male and 1,435 female. Shaw College Named after its Patron, Shaw College was made possible by the generosity of Sir Run Run Shaw, who donated HK$110 million to CUHK for the founding of the fourth constituent College. The ordinance that gives legal effect to this important development of the University was passed by the Legislative Council in July 1986 and became law on 1 August of the same year. A board of trustees of Shaw College has accordingly come into being, charting the course of the College’s development
