Exchange students are those who are nominated by institutions which have formal exchange agreements with the University. Exchange students are exempted from paying tuition to CUHK. Study abroad students are those who come from institutions which normally do not have formal exchange agreements with CUHK. Study abroad students must pay the IASP tuition. Both exchange and study abroad students are responsible for housing and other exchange related fees. The Office of Academic Links serves as the home department to both exchange and study abroad students. In January 2006, the School was renamed as the School of Continuing and Professional Studies (CUSCS). Bearing the mission of providing quality continuing professional education programmes and services to meet the changing needs of society, the School offers a diverse range of courses and programmes at different levels. In 2011–12, over 1,200 general courses and about 200 award-bearing programmes were offered with a total enrolment of about 38,000 or full-time equivalent of 6,500 students. In 2010, as part of its strategic development, the School established five academies so as to provide learning opportunities in five focused areas. They are Creative Academy, Liberal Arts Academy, Management Academy, Professional Development Academy, and Advanced Development Academy. The programmes and courses offered cover a wide range of disciplines, including art and design; music and the humanities; creative media; business and management; accounting and finance; social sciences and public administration; languages and translation; traditional Chinese medicine and health care; information technology and technology management; and nature and environment.
