C U H K N e w s l e t t e r S e r v i c e s t o t h e C o m m u n i t y a n d I n t e r n a t i o n a l O r g a n i z a t i o n s • Dr. Kelvin Chan, reader in pharmacology, was recently elected a Fellow of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain. Dr. Chan was also elected councillor to the Drug Metabolism Section of the International Union of Pharmacology. • Prof. S. T. Chang, professor of biology, was appointed honorary professor of the Department of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology, Tsinghua University, Beijing, China from 1st September 1990. • Dr. K. M. Chan, reader in orthopaedics and traumatology, was elected vice- president of the Hong Kong Medical Association for two years from 1990 to 1992. Dr. Chan was also reappointed honorary consultant to the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts for 1990-91. • Dr. Wong Tze Wai, senior lecturer in community and family medicine, was elected a member of the American College of Epidemiology in August 1990. • Prof. C. N. Yang, distinguished professor- at-large, and Prof. Kenneth Young, professor of physics, were elected to the governing council of the Association of Asia Pacific Physical Societies (AAPPS) for two years from August 1990. Prof. Yang was also elected President of AAPPS and Prof. Young was appointed secretary. • Dr. Lam Kin Che, senior lecturer in geography, was reappointed a member of the Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries for one year from 21st May 1990. Dr. Lam also served as an external examiner for an M.Phil, student of the University of Hong Kong. • Mr. Stephen Yam, lecturer in accountancy, has been appointed honorary visiting professor of the School of Management of the Xian Communication University, China from July 1990 to July 1995. • Prof. Cheng Tsu-yu, senior visiting research fellow of the Institute of Chinese Studies, has received international recognition of his contributions in the study of Chinese rhetorics. His biography has recently been included in Dictionary of International Biography, International Who's Who of Intellectuals, International Authors and Writers Who's Who, First Five Hundred, International Directory of Distinguished Leadership and International Book of Honor published by the International Biographical Centre of Cambridge, UK, and the American Biographical Institute respectively. • Mr. S. S. Tam, senior assistant secretary of thePersonnel Section, has been invited by the Hong Kong Football Association to be a co-opted member of its Finance Committee and Referees Committee in the 1990-91 season. • Dr. Edward P. L. Loong, senior lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology, has been appointed a member of the advisory editorial board of Asia-Oceania Journal ofObstetrics and Gynaecology.
