Sympos i um on Breast-Feeding The University's Paediatrics Department and the Hong Kong Nutrition Association jointly organized a symposium on breast-feeding on 25th October 1992 in the lecture hall of the Hong Kong Science Museum. Local as well as overseas experts gathered to exchange experience in the promotion of breast-feeding. While breast milk is the perfect food for infants, in Hong Kong breast- feeding rate has remained very low over the last two decades, at about 20 to 30 per cent of mothers of new born babies. This year, important steps have been taken by the United Nations Children's Fund and the World Health Organization to promote breast-feeding worldwide, urging different countries to achieve 'baby-friendly goals' by the end of 1992. The symposium organized by the Paediatrics Department was an effort made in this direction.
