A l l are welcome. Obituary Dr. Daniel F . K . Chan, lecturer i n social work, passed away o n 27th October 1992. Dr . Chan first joined th e University a s assistant lecturer i n social work o n 1s t September 1971. Service to the Community and International Organizations • Prof. Charles K . Kao , th e vice- chancellor, has been reappointed by HE the Governor ‘as chairman o fth e Technology Review Board o fth e Industry and Technology Development Council fo rth eperiod u p t o 31s t October 1994. Prof. Kao has also been invited by the Hong Kong Institute of Science t o b e a Founding Member of the institute. • Dr .Leung Yee ,reader i n geography, has been appointed by HE the Governor a s a member o fth e Environmental Pollution Advisory Committee from 1st September 1992 to 31st December 1993. • Prof. Yeung Yue-man o f th eDepartment of Geography has been elected director o f th eCommonwealth Geographical Bureau from August 1992 to August 1996. • Prof. Joseph C . K . Le eo f th e Department of Anatomical and Cellular Pathology ha sbeen elected vice- president fo rAsia o fthe International Academy of Pathology. • Dr .H . K . Ng, senior lecturer i n anatomical and cellular pathology, has been appointed b y th eHong Kong College o f Pathologists t o b eth e chief examiner fo rth ecourse in anatomical/clinical pathology. • Prof. Kenneth Young, dean o fth e Faculty o fScience, has been appointed a member o f th eResearch Grants Council of UPGC for two years from 1st January 1993. • Prof. David C . Anderson o fth e Department o f Medicine ha sbeen appointed a member o fth e Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan Selection Committee for one year from October 1992. • Prof. S. J.Oppenheimer o fthe Department of Paediatrics has been invited by the Japan Paediatric Society to serve on the advisory board o f it sjournal Acta Paediatrica Japonica.
