Please refer to page 7 for details of special arrangements for that day. 30th Anniversary Banquet The 30th anniversary banquet 一 Pearl Reunion 一 will be held from 7.30 p.m. to 11.45 p.m. on Saturday, 16th October at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. It will be a precious opportunity for founders, friends, alumni, staff and students of the University to gather together and celebrate the achievements of the University over the last 30 years. Many distinguished guests including honorary graduates of 1993 will be invited to attend the function. The night's programme will include a lucky draw with many grand prizes. Banquet tickets are sold at HK$380 each. Zadeh, Professor Emeritus, and Director of the Berkeley Initiative on Soft Computing, University of California at Berkeley, USA. Date: Tuesday, 26th October Organizer: Faculty of Engineering Conference on Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products Over 300 mushroom experts from more than 40 countries attended the 'First International Conference on Mushroom Biology and Mushroom Products' held from 23rd to 26th August. Jointly organized by the University's Department of Biology and the UNESCO Network for Microbial Resource Centres (MIRCENS), the function was held to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the University. The opening ceremony took place at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hall on campus while scientific sessions and exhibitions were held at the Sha Tin Town Hall. Topics for discussion ranged from bio- conversions and composting, genetics and breeding, medicinal applications, nutritive aspects, to cultivation technology, postharvesting techniques, and quality control. Participants included internationally famous experts such as Prof. S. T. Chang of CUHK, Prof. G. T. Liu of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Prof. B. K. Kim of Seoul National University, Prof. J. F. Peberdy of the University of Nottingham, Prof. D. J. Royse of the State University of Pennsylvania, Prof. M. S. Bergdoll of the University of Wisconsin, and Prof. D. A. Wood of Horticultural Research International (UK). The conference was sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, the Croucher Foundation, and Concord Health Foods Limited. 1
