CUHK NEWSLETTER Humanities Fun Day 1994 Ninth April 199 4 was just an ordinary Saturday, bu t a very specia l fu n day for the Faculty o f Arts. Its specialness lay in the keeping up o f a good tradition o f the faculty —holding annuall y the Humanities Fu n Day, which is now in its fourt h yea r o f existence. Wit h th e full support of Dr. Ho Hsiu-hwang, dea n o f arts, colleagues of the Faculty o f Art s an d other units can have an enjoyable tim e o n a Saturday afternoo n in March o r Apri l every year. The y ca n try their luck a t th e gam e stalls a t th e University Sport s Centre carpar k o r take par t i n th e sports events inside the gymnasium. Al l are ther e fo r a goo d time - n o on e care s much abou t winnin g or losing , o r wha t prizes on e get s fo r his or her efforts. What we do car e abou t i s t h solidarity o f the Facult y of Arts , th e participatio n o f ou r colleagues, th e happines s o f togetherness, an d th e smile s o n people's faces . Th e Humanitie s Fu n Day i s a da y o f fu n fo r th e entir e university. This yea r th e even t wa s cosponsored by the Faculty of Arts and seven othe r units . Som e 30 0 peopl e came t o pla y a t th e nin e gam e stall s or take part in the five sporting events. To organize an event which everybody can enjoy is no eas y task. The prize s and mone y donate d b y Dr . Ho Hsiu - hwang, th e suppor t o f the departmen t chairmen and unit heads, the assistance of th e colleague s o f th e Universit y Sports Centre, and the efforts of all those who helpe d t o organiz e th e event , al l contributed t o th e succes s o f the Fu n Day. O f n o les s importanc e wer e th e lion-dance b y student s fro m th e International Asian Studies Programme and th e performanc e b y th e Chines e Orchestra of the Department of Music, both o f whic h create d a festiv e atmosphere fo r the day . This year, a Fun Day Dinner was held for the first time. Those who stayed for the meal took up 1 0 tables, and honourable guest s included Prof. Charles K . Kao, Prof. Chao Bian Rulan, Prof . Le o Lee Ou-fan , Miss Barbar a Fei , an d Prof . an d Mrs. Baysun g Hsu . Prof . Hsu , wh o will retire this summer, was presented with a phot o albu m containin g th e signatures o f al l those wh o cam e t o the Fu n Day . We wish hi m a happy retirement. We must also thank other honourable guest s wh o cam e bu t could no t hav e dinne r wit h us : Mr . T. L. Tsim and his family, Mrs. Nancy A.
