The Righteous Never Fails to be Rewarded for His Virtue Mrs. Lo Mak Hau-chong, Science Centre Management Office I first joined The Chinese University as a telephone operator at United College, then situate d on Bonham Road . The college moved to its present sit e on the Sh a Tin campus in 197 2 and I was promoted to the rank of General Clerk II in 1976 . I have been posted t o the Scienc e Centr e Managemen t Offic e since 1980 . During these years I have served under six bosses, and Miss Julia Wu, who was in charge of the Science Centre when I first came here, had the strongest impressio n on me. She never failed to give me guidance and encouragement at the appropriate time, and I have respected her as a mentor and friend ever since . While work at the Science Centre is heavy it also gives me good training and raises my efficiency. I have just learnt that our office will have to take care of the management of the Engineering Building. To me this is splendid news, and the pleasure one derives from monetary reward is far exceeded by the satisfaction of knowing that one is capable of doing more. In al l thes e year s I have followe d thes e simpl e precept s i n m y work: The righteous never fails to be rewarded for his virtue; the scholar does not practise sophistry because he knows where truth lies.' I am at once proud and gratified to receive the award. (Translation) Mr. Lo Chi-hung, University Library System ntire staff of the University Library in 1969. I am fifth ow. It was a very small library then, occuping the site nackbar. NO.55 JUNE 1994 1
