The b r ochu re contains 1 2 b i l i n g u a l a r t i c l es w r i t t en b y scholarship holders who recount their experience i n field placement, th e excitement and frustrations they feel in their studies, and their commitment towards life and society. On behalf o f all the 1999-2000 recipients, Ms. Fiona Ho Wai-yee conveyed their gratitude t o the Hongkong Bank Foundation and acknowledged that the scholarships had been a continuous source o f support and motivation for them. The Hongkong Bank Foundation Social Work Scholarships are awarded to social work students annually and their renewal i s based on academic merit. Helpin g Single- Paren tFamilie s I n view o f the rising incidence o f divorce, th e psychological needs and problems o f single- parent families have become on e o f the most pressing social issues in Hong Kong society. A seminar o n Working wi th Single Parent Families was organized by the Department of Social Work an d th e Sh a Ti n District Coordinating Committee on Family and Child Welfare Services at the University on 25th November. The seminar aimed at disseminating up-to-date knowledge about single-parent families and developing strategies t o help them. Policies relating to service allocation and coordination were also discussed. Prof. Miranda Chung o f the Department o f Social Work delivered a keynote speech o n th e psychological adjustment of children, while Mr. Lee Wing-wai, regional officer o f the Social Work Department of the HKSAR, spoke on government polices on single-parent families.
