Servic e t oth eCommunit y and Internationa l Organization s • Prof. Yeung Yue Man, director of the Hong Kong Institute of Asia-Pacific Studies, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HK S AR as chairman of the Land and Building Advisory Committee for two years from 1st April 2003. • Prof. L i u Pak Wai, pro-vice-chancellor, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the H K S AR as a member of the Land and Building Advisory Committee for two years from 1st Ap r il 2003, and as a member of the Independent Commission on Remuneration for Members of the Executive Council and the Legislature of the HKSAR from 14th March 2003 to 31st March 2005. Prof. L iu has also been appointed as the director of the Hong Kong Institute for Monetary Research for one year from 24th March 2003. • Prof. Japhet Law, professor in the Department of Decision Sciences and Managerial Economics, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HK S AR as a member of the Equal Opportunities Commission for two years from 20th May 2003. • Dr. Anthony Edward James, director of the Laboratory Animal Services Centre, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HK S AR as a member of the Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene for two years from 1st Ap r il 2003. • Prof. Kwan Hoi-shan, professor in the Department of Biology, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member of the Advisory Council on Food and Environmental Hygiene for two years from 1 st April 2003. • Prof. Cavor Chan Kai-ming, professor of orthopaedics and traumatology, has been re-appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member of the Hong Kong Sports Development Board for one year from 1st Ap r il 2003, as chairman of the Hong Ko ng Sports Institute Management Committee for one year from 1st April 2003, and as a Justice of the Peace from 1st July 2003. • Prof. Lee Tak-shing, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry, has been appointed by the Chief Executive o f the H K S AR as a member o f the Release under Supervision Board of the Prisoners (Release under Supervision) Ordinance for three years from 15th March 2003. • Prof. Kenneth Lee Kwing-chin, professor in the School of Pharmacy, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the H K S AR as a Justice of the Peace from 1st July 2003. • Prof. Rance P.L. Lee, professor of sociology, has been appointed by the Chief Secretary for Administration as a member of the Sir Edward Youde Memorial Fund Council for two years from 1st April 2003. He has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as a member of the Research Grants Council for two years from 1st July 2003, and by the Chief Justice as a member of the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal Panel for one year from 3rd May 2003. Prof. Lee has also been appointed as manager of Yan Chai Hospital Wong Wha San Secondary School and Yan Chai Hospital Chan Iu Seng Primary School for one year until 31st March 2004. • Prof. Kenneth Young, pro-vice-chancellor, has been reappointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as the chairman of the Research Grants Council for two years from 1st July 2003. Prof. Young has also been reappointed as a member of the Barristers Disciplinary Tribunal Panel for five years from 3rd May 2003. • Prof. Ignatius Yu Tak Sun, associate professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, has been a p p o i n t ed b y the Secretary f o r E c o n om ic D e v e l o p m e nt and L a b o ur a s a memb er o f the Occupational Deafness Medical Committee for three years from 1st June 2003. • Prof. Tung Ho Suk Ching, professor in the Department of Marketing, has been appointed as a member of the A g r i c u l t u r al Products Scholarship Fund A d v i s o ry Committee for one year from 1st April 2003. She has also been appointed by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food as a member o f the A d v i s o ry Committee o n Agricultural and Fisheries for two years from 20th May 2003. • Prof. Linda Lam Chiu Wa, associate professor in the Department of Psychiatry, has been re-appointed by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food as a member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal for two years from 15th April 2003. • Prof. W i n g Yun K w o k , associate professor i n the Department of Psychiatry, has been appointed by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food as a member of the Mental Health Review Tribunal for two years from 15th April 2003. Prof. Wing has also been re-nominated to the Panel of Assessors of the Medical Council for one year from 6th September 2003. • Prof. Simon Ho Shun Man, professor in the School of Accountancy, has been appointed by the Secretary for E d u c a t i on and M a n p o w er a s a memb er o f the Accountancy Training Board of the Vocational Training Council for one year from 1st April 2003. • Prof. Clement So York Kee, associate professor in the School of Journalism and Communication, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as a member of the Mass Communications Training Board of the Vocational Training Council for one year from 1 st April 2003. • Prof. Liew Soung Chang, professor in the Department of Information Engineering, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as a member of the Committee on Information Technology Training and Development of the Vocational Training Council for one year from 1st April 2003. • Prof. K e v in A u Yuk Fai, associate professor i n the Department of Management, has been appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as a member of the Committee on Management and Supervisory Training of the Vocational Training Council for one year from 1 st April 2003. • Prof. L am Kin-che, professor i n the Department o f Geography and Resource Management, has been reappointed by the Secretary for Security as an adjudicator of the Registration of Persons Tribunal for two years from 1st June 2003. • Prof. Jack Cheng Chun Yiu, pro-vice-chancellor, has been appointed as a member o f the C r i m i n al and L aw Enforcement Injuries Compensation Boards for two years from 19th June 2003. • Prof. Yeung Chung Kwong, professor in the Department o f Surgery, has been re-nominated t o the Panel o f Assessors of the Medical Council for one year from 6th September 2003. • Prof. Eric Lam Ching Wan, associate professor in the Department of Chemical Pathology, has been invited by Princess Margaret Hospital to be an honorary consultant in the Department of Pathology for one year from 1 st April 2003. He has also been appointed by the Hong Ko ng Accreditation Service as a member of the Task Force on Chemical Pathology under the Accreditation Advisory Board Working Party on Medical Testing. • Prof. Richard Ho, University registrar, has been appointed as a member of the Panel of Adjudicators of the Obscene Articles Tribunal for three years from 15th June 2003. He has also been appointed by T V B as an honorary consultant of a programme on Chinese linguistics from 9th June 2003. • Prof. Thomas Chan Yan Keung, professor in the Division of Clinical Pharmacology of the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, has been re-nominated as a member of Pharmacy and Poisons Board from 4th July 2003. • Mrs. Clara Lee, director of student affairs, has been reappointed as the institutional representative of CUHK in the Joint Committee on Student Finance for one year from 1st May 2003. • Prof. To ny Ch u ng K w o k - h u n g, professor i n the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, has been honoured as a fellow ad eundem by the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologist, UK. • Prof. Guo-wei He, director of the Cardiovascular Surgical Research Laboratory in the Department of Surgery, has been awarded the degree of Doctor of Science from Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, in May 2003. • Prof. David Thompson, director of The Nethersole School of Nursing, has been appointed as adjunct professor of Clinical Nursing of the University of Adelaide, Australia, for three years. Prof. Thompson has also been appointed by the University of Nottingham as special professor of nursing for three years from 1st August 2003.
