第五號閘崗延長開放時間 Extension of Opening Hours of Gate No. 5 讓車輛進出校園東區和科學園道的第五號閘崗,已由七月五日起延長開放時間,每日由上 午七時至子夜零時止。該閘崗於星期日及公眾假期將會關閉,敬希垂注。 With effect from 5th July 2004 (Monday), the opening hours of Gate No. 5 for vehicular access between Eastern Campus and Science Park Road has been been revised to begin at 7.00 a.m. and end at 23.59 p.m. Monday to Saturday. The gate w i ll be closed on Sundays and public holidays. 文物館展出二十世紀景德鎮瓷藝 Art Museum Exhibition 文物館現舉行「薪火英華:二十世紀景德鎮瓷藝回顧」展覽,展期至十月十日止,歡迎 參觀。 江西景德鎮是中國的瓷都。今年為景德鎮千禧和景德鎮陶瓷館開館五十周年,本校文物 館特與景德鎮陶瓷館合辦展覽誌慶,並藉以總結二十世紀景德鎮陶瓷藝人的努力。展品近二 百項,有各種粉彩、五彩、單色釉、青花、瓷雕等,當中以清末的宣統官窯、民初的洪憲 瓷、民國時期的繪瓷名家作品、文革時期的瓷板和瓷雕,以至各種仿古瓷、新彩瓷等為重點 項目。大部分展品由景德鎮陶瓷館借出,其餘選自香港的公私收藏。 To celebrate the 1,000th anniversary of the township of Jingdezhen, the ceramic capital of China, and the 50th anniversary of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum, the Art Museum of the University co-presents with the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum an exhibition titled 'Innovations and Creations: A Retrospect of 20th Century Porcelain from Jingdezhen'. The exhibition also aims at giving an overview of the efforts of Jingdezhen potters in the last century. There are roughly 200 entries which include imperial wares for the last emperor, Hongxian wares, famille rose enamels, wucai enamels, monochromes, blue and whites, and antique-type ware. The majority have been selected from the collection of the Jingdezhen Ceramic Museum and the rest from private and public collections in Hong Kong. The exhibition w i ll run until 10th October 2004. 訃告 Obituaries •前崇基學院院長、前文學院院長沈宣仁教授於二零零四年八月五日在美國洛杉磯克利蒙住 所辭世,享年七十三歲。 沈教授一九六二年加入崇基學院哲學及宗教學系,自此盡心竭力服務書院及大學凡三 十二載,於一九九四年榮休。期間曾擔任多項行政要職,包括文學院院長、哲學及宗教學 系系主任、崇基學院通識教育主任和崇基學院院長。 沈教授畢生躬耕桃李,潤澤學子無數;為人睿智幽默,治學嚴謹求真,行事力求善 美,生活秉持基督精神,深為師生景仰。沈教授遺愛遺教,對大學的巨大貢獻,大學同人 永誌不忘。 Dr. Philip Shen, former head of Chung Chi College and dean of the Faculty of Arts at CUHK, passed away on 5th August 2004 at his home in Claremont, Los Angeles. He was 73. Dr. Shen joined Chung Chi College in 1962 as lecturer in philosophy and religion. For 32 years since until his retirement in 1994, he devoted himself to serving Chung Chi and the University, taking up such important positions as dean of arts, chairman of the Department of Philosophy and Religion, dean of College General Education of Chung Chi, and head of Chung Chi College. A much-respected scholar and a well-loved teacher, Dr. Shen was famed for his dedication to general education, his wisdom and humour, his strong Christian faith, and his persistent quest for perfection. His important contributions to the University w i ll be long remembered by his colleagues and students, and his passing is mourned by them all. •逸夫書院學生宿舍二級工人陳鳳貞女士於二零零四年六月四日辭世。陳女士於一九九七年 一月加入本校服務。 Ms. Chan Fung Ching, workman I I at the student hostels of Shaw College, passed away on 4th June 2004. Ms. Chan first joined the University in January 1997. Servic e t oth eCommunit y an d Internationa l Organization s • Prof. Chan Chi Fai Andrew, professor in the Department of Marketing, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as the chairman of the Hong Kong Deposit Protection Board for two years from 1st July 2004. • Prof. Jean Woo, director of School of Public Health, has been appointed by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR as a member of the Elderly Commission for two years from 30th July 2004. • Prof. Kenneth Young, pro-vice-chancellor, has been appointed by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food as a member of the Radiological Protection Advisory Group for three years from 1st June 2004. • Prof. Sally Chan Wai Chi, professor in the Nethersole School of Nursing, has been appointed by the Secretary for Health, Welfare and Food as a member of the Nursing Council of Hong Kong for three years from 23rd July 2004. • Mrs. Clara Lee, director of Student Affairs, has been re-appointed by the Secretary for Education and Manpower as the institutional representative of CUHK to the Joint Committee on Student Finance for one year from 1st June 2004. • Dr. Anthony Edward James, director of the Laboratory Animal Services Centre, has been appointed by the Director ofAgriculture, Fisheries and Conservation as a member of the Dogs and Cats Classification Board for two years from 1st June 2004. • Prof. Wing Yun Kwok, professor in the Department ofPsychiatry, has been re-nominated as an assessor of the Medical Council for one year from 5th September 2004. • Prof. Yeung Chung Kwong, professor of surgery, has been re-nominated as an assessor of the Medical Council for one year from 5th September 2004. • Prof. Yum Tak Shing Peter, professor of information engineering, has been nominated for appointment to the Information Technology Advisory Committee ofthe Government. • Prof. Richard Ho, registrar, has been re-appointed as a honorary consultant of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department on art and literature for two years from 1st April 2004. • Prof. Fok Tai Fai, dean of medicine, has been nominated to take over Prof. Sydney Chung's membership of the Medical Council of Hong Kong from 1st July 2004 to 23rd January 2006. • Prof. Lau Tak Fai Joseph, director of the Centre for Epidemiology and Biostatistics, has been appointed as a member of the Children and Youth Service Development Sub- committee of the Scout Association of Hong Kong, The Friend of Scouting for 2004-5. • Prof. David T. Yew, professor of anatomy, has been invited to be a member of the Federative International Committee on Anatomical Terminology. • Prof. Suzanne Ho, professor in the Department of Community and Family Medicine, has been appointed as a member of the Hospital Governing Committee (HGC) of Cheshire Home, Shatin for one year from 1st April 2004. She has also been invited to serve as a member of the editorial board of Current Nutrition Reviews. • Prof. Thomas Y.K. Chan, professor in the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, has been appointed as a visiting professor to Central South University, Hunan from May 2004 to May 2009. • Prof. Poon Wai Sang, professor of surgery, has been appointed as a visiting professor to the First Affiliated Hospital at Sun Yat-sen University from March 2004 to March 2007. • Prof. Lo Lung Kwong, head of the Divinity School of Chung Chi College, has been appointed as a visiting professor to the Faculty of Arts of Nankai University from 23rd May 2004. • Prof. Greta Olson, professor in the Department of Music, was appointed as an honorary research fellow of the Instituto Valenciano de la Musica from 15th May 2004 to 15th July 2004. •自動化與計算機辅助工程學系系主任徐揚生教授獲聘由二零零四年四月至二零 零六年六月為國家高技術研究發展計劃("863"計劃)航天航空技術領域專家委員 會顧問。 Award Dr. Lee Sze Kuen Victor, director of School of Continuing Studies, has been elected as an honorary fellow of the Hong Kong Institute of Marketing on 1st April 2004.
