Faculty of Social Science Honours Outstanding Teachers and Students T hree teachers in the Faculty of Social Science were honoured with the Faculty's Exemplary Teaching Award on 21st January. They were Prof. Lawal Marafa of the Department of Geography and Resource Management, Prof. Cheung Him of the Department of Psychology, and Prof. Wong Suk Ying of the Department of Sociology. The award presentation ceremon y took place in LT1 of Esther Lee Building, with Mr. Paul K.B. Cheung, chief editor of Ming Pao Newspapers Limited, and Prof. Ho Puay Peng, University Dean of Students, as the guests of honour. On the same occasion, Dean's List certificates were presented to undergraduate and graduate students of the faculty who had achieved outstanding academic results. Mr. Paul Cheung and students on the Deans List CUH K Anthropology Celebrates 25th Anniversary E stablished in 1980, the Department of Anthropology celebrates its silver jubilee in 2005-06. On 16th December 2005, over a hundred teachers, staff, students and alumni of the department gathered at Yun Chi Hsien, New Asia College, for a reunion dinner party. The party kicked off w i th a cake- cutting ceremony officiated b y Prof. H e n r y W o n g , head of N ew As ia College, w ho was a c c ompan i ed by former and current chairpersons of the department, and representatives of the Hong Kong An t h r opo l og i cal Societ y and Anthropology Student Society . The evening's programmes included sharing by f o u n d i ng chairperson Prof. Chiao Ch i en, musical performances, standup comedy , and a lucky d r aw. The h i gh l i ght was an o ld pho to slideshow wh i ch triggered much laughter and nostalgia. The Department of Anthropolog y has organized a series of academic and exchange activities this academic year to celebrate its 25th anniversary. These include, in the first term, a multimedia exhibition on 'Contemporary Taiwan: Globalization and Localization' at the Hui Gallery, New Asia College, a 25th anniversary logo competition, and a public lecture 'Why Is There Inequality' by Prof. Alan Macfarlane, professor of social anthropology, Cambridge University. In th e second term, the department will coorganize the annual meeting of the Society for East Asian Anthropology, American Anthropological Association, in Jul y 2006. The award, organized by the Staf f Training and Development Committee, aims at recognizing University non-teaching staff who provide outstanding service to their clients. There will be five to 10 awards. A trophy and a gift coupon will be presented to each awardee. A l l full-time Terms of Service (B)/(C) and equivalent non-teaching staff are eligible for nomination. The deadline for recommendation for nomination from University students and staff is 25th March while the deadline for nomination from department chairmen/unit heads is 22nd April . Enquiries may be made to 2609 8607/7876. 預防肝炎運動 Hepatitis Awareness Campaign in March 保健處將於三月十三至二十四日舉辦預防肝炎運動，在保健醫療中心展出有關 肝炎的資料。三月十日下午一至二時舉行的「肝炎新知」講座，由梁慧儀醫生講解 有關肝炎的最新資訊。展覽期間，該處提供健康諮詢服務，為教職員及其家屬和學 生檢驗肝炎抗原及抗體，並為有需要者注射疫苗。 抽血檢驗於三月十六及十七日上午九時至中午十二時半，以及下午二時至四時 半在保健醫療中心進行，費用為一百元。欲注射乙型肝炎疫苗者，必須驗血；欲注 射注甲型肝炎疫苗者，則可選擇直接注射。 注射甲型肝炎疫苗（兩劑）每劑費用二百二十五元，乙型肝炎疫苗（三劑）每 劑七十元，而混合甲乙型肝炎疫苗（三劑）則每劑二百二十元。第一劑疫苗注射日 期為三月二十三及二十四日，時間為上午九時至十二時半，以及下午二時至四時 半。 The University Health Service is holding a Hepatitis Awareness Campaign in March 2006. There w i ll be a Hepatitis Update on 10th March from 1 to 2 p.m., given by Dr. Nancy Leung. Pre-vaccination bloo d tests at HK$100 each, w i ll be available on 16th and 17th March, from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m., and 2 t o 4.30 p.m. They are optional for Hepatitis A and required for Hepatitis B.
