8 No. 401, 19.8.2012 訃告 Obituaries 本校四位職員於近日先後離世，大學深表哀悼。 • 陳靜雯女士於2012年6月27日逝世。陳女士於2006年11月20日加入中大，擔任外科學 系文員。 • Charles Alexander Muirhead 先生於2012年7月9日逝世。Muirhead 先生於 1999 年 8月16日加入中大，擔任英語教學單位導師。 • 麥嘉倫教授於2012年7月28日逝世，麥嘉倫教授於1996年8月15日加入中大，生前擔任 音樂系副教授兼系主任。 • 楊鶴强教授於2012年7月29日逝世，楊教授於1986年4月21日加入中大，生前擔任生物 醫學學院教授。 The University is saddened by the loss of four colleagues. • Ms. Chan Ching-man, who passed away on 27 June 2012, joined the University on 20 November 2006 and had served as general clerk in the Department of Surgery. • Mr. Charles Alexander Muirhead, who passed away on 9 July 2012, joined the University on 16 August 1999 and had served as instructor in the English Language Teaching Unit. • Prof. Michael Edward McClellan, who passed away on 28 July 2012, joined the University on 15 August 1996. His latest position was associate professor in the Department of Music, of which he served concurrently as chairman. • Prof. Yeung Hok-keung John, who passed away on 29 July 2012, joined the University on 21 April 1986. For further information, please call 3943 6412. 在齊太史簡，在晉董狐筆 《史家高華》，寥寥四字的書名，「史家」教人想起齊太 史、董狐、司馬遷秉筆直書的氣節，這個重若千鈞的稱呼， 高華當之無愧。 高華在2000年出版力作《紅太陽是怎樣升起的》，史學 界交口稱譽。高華本行是民國史，卻捨易行難，一頭栽進 被視為禁區的中共黨史研究，得不到研究經費資助，也無 法接觸官方機密檔案。《紅太陽》是他每天晚上待家人睡 後，躲到狹仄廚房，在一張小桌子上寫成，憑着史才、史學 和史識，從已公開出版的材料中披沙揀金，辨析出歷史真 相。高華甘貧守志，讓我們看到何謂「板櫈甘坐十年冷，文 章不寫一字空」。 2011年高華五十七歲，對人文學者來說，這個年紀本是學 術最成熟的巔峰階段，可惜天不假年，他在該年年底因病 去世。 高華是南京大學教授，但與中文大學淵源深厚，自1998年 起已為中國文化研究所當代中國研究中心出版的《二十一 世紀》期刊撰文，那部傳世之作《紅太陽》也是由該中心 編輯，中文大學出版社出版。他又多次應中國研究服務中 心之邀來校訪問，《史家高華》的編者之一熊景明，就是該 中心前副主任。 此書輯錄了高華同行、學生、舊友的紀念文章，或評論其學 術，或回憶其生前點滴，幾篇高華學生所寫的文章尤其感 人，閱之，這位細心、謙和、耿介又永遠掛着燦爛笑容的學 者，恍惚又重視眼前。此書在緬懷這位為求真知甘於貧寒 的良史之餘，也映照出中國近現代史研究的現狀。 A Historian Gone Too Soon Gao Hua, The Historian is a collection of essays in memory of Gao Hua, the late historian of modern Chinese history and professor of Nanjing University. In 2000, Gao Hua published How Did the Sun Rise over Yan’an? A History of the Rectification Movement , garnering critical acclaim in the academic circle. Trained as an expert on the history of Republican China, Gao ventured into studies of the history of the Chinese Communist Party, which has been seen an academic minefield in China. Without access to government research funding and official archives, Gao painstakingly combed through published materials and winnowed out valuable information with his intuition and insight. Every night after his family went to sleep and the kitchen of his home was not in use, he secluded himself in the kitchen to write his book. When he passed away in 2011, Gao was 57, a phase of life when a humanities scholar reaches his or her intellectual prime. Gao’s life was intertwined with CUHK. Since 1998, he had been a contributor to the Twenty- First Century , an academic journal published by the Research Centre for Contemporary Chinese Culture, the Institute of Chinese Studies. His much-applauded book How Did the Red Sun Rise over Yan’an? was published by the Chinese University Press. He visited the University many times as a visiting scholar of the University Service Centre for China Studies. Hung King-ming Jean, co-editor of Gao Hua, The Historian , was the assistant director of the centre.
