Taking CUHK’s Educational Philosophy Northward 07 figure in 2018 went beyond 1,100. Most remarkably, the average score of the admittees in the science and the arts majors in the 2018 Gaokao surpassed those of the first-tier universities by 133 marks and by 82 marks, respectively. Their average score for English was 138 out of a full mark of 150. For three years in a row, CUHK (SZ) has recorded the highest admission scores among universities in Guangdong. Among the top students admitted are the top scorer in science in Guangdong Province and the second highest scorer in science in Fujian Province. stand out in the crowd and win the trust of students and parents in its first student recruitment exercise goes without saying. In order to enlist the service of the best educators and researchers, Professor Xu took it upon himself to fly to the UK and the US to recruit renowned professors, academics and researchers to join the team. His travels and travails have resulted in the coming on board of four Nobel laureates, two Turing Award winners, a Fields medalist, along with a number of experts from national and international professional bodies. Professor Xu also visited and hosted admissions talks in as many as 83 secondary schools across the country, where he explained the missions and vision of CUHK (SZ) and won widespread approval from students, parents and members of the public. Over 300 students were admitted in the very first year in 2014. The student intake was doubled the next year to around 600, and the latest science. We have high hopes of them carrying forward important Chinese traditions while acquiring a global mindset. We want them to be creative, while being prepared at all times to assume greater responsibilities.’ CUHK (SZ) insists on recruiting the best teachers from around the world, and nearly 90% of the programmes are taught in English. CUHK (SZ) is also intent on forging collaborations with internationally-renowned institutions. Right now, it has 87 partner universities, and collaborative projects consist of student exchanges, joint programmes, research partnerships and international summer programmes, among others. Recognition Follows Hard Work The annual tuition fee of China’s top public universities such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, Fudan University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University is around RMB 6,000.
