Greater Expectations : CUHK's vision and action in the Greater Bay Area 21 A Tale of CUHK and the GBA M ore than a decade before the Chinese government announced its blueprint for a megalopolis along its southern coastline in 2017, the University set foot in Shenzhen to co-found the Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, the first among local higher education institutions to establish a presence in what is fast becoming the nation’s economic and innovation powerhouse. From research to education to entrepreneurship, the collaboration branches out, spawning three research institutes, a university, and an innovation hub that is home to 56 CUHK born-and-bred startups. The following timeline traces how the University has expanded its foothold in the region over the years.
