20 Part 1 • General Information Part 1 Alumni Network Into its 55th year, CUHK has a graduate population of over 200,000. Established in 1982, the Alumni Affairs Office (AAO) is committed to building a close-knit alumni community, with a recent focus on broadening its reach and cultivating relationship with alumni to advance the University’s strategic development. AAO not only keeps the alumni abreast with the latest news of the University, but also covers the news of those alumni who have remarkable achievements and contributions. Among the diverse events held, CUHKAlumni Career Expo, CUHK Entrepreneur Day and CUHK Alumni Homecoming are the most well-received. Almost 130 CUHK alumni associations have been founded worldwide, with 85 local alumni associations and 44 overseas alumni associations in 29 cities/regions. CUHK launched the Alumni Associations Centre on campus in 2018, in a bid to facilitate the interaction among the alumni groups and with the University. AAO spares no effort in engaging the alumni from different ages, professions and regions to contribute to the advancement of their alma mater by offering their time, talents and treasure. University Press To assist in dissemination of knowledge, CUHK established the Publications Office in 1968 to look after the publishing needs of academic books. In 1977, The Chinese University Press (CUP) was officially set up. Over the past half-century, CUP emerged as a leading world-class English-Chinese bilingual academic publisher. Currently, CUP publishes about 60 new books per year and carries over 2,300 titles on its backlist. A long list of notable authors has worked with CUP, including Lucien Bianco, Derk Bodde, Gao Xingjian, Patrick Hanan, Hsu Cho-yun, Jao Tsung-I, D.C. Lau, Stuart R. Schram, and Ezra Vogel. CUP’s publications reach readers worldwide through its comprehensive global sales network with sales representation in North America, Europe, Australia, Taiwan, Japan, and India. CUP earned the reputation of a publishing powerhouse in China and Hong Kong studies, particularly in the field of 20th-century Chinese history by building an excellent bilingual editorial team, expanding and diversifying publishing programmes, and initiating new book series. Its journal, The China Review , is now a well-recognized SSCI journal in China studies. CUP has developed partnerships with major international publishers, such as New York Review Books, Columbia University Press, Princeton University Press, the University of Chicago Press, University of Hawaiʻi Press, the State University of New York Press, and Éditions Gallimard. Every year, CUP takes an active part in the Association of Asian Studies annual meeting, Hong Kong Book Fair, Taipei Book Fair, and Beijing Book Fair. It is currently the only Hong Kong member of the Association of University Presses.
