34 Part 1 • General Information Part 1 STATUTE 22 Retirement of Certain Officers and Academic Staff The Vice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellors and all other salaried officers and teachers— (a) shall vacate their offices or appointments by 31 July following the date on which they attain the age of 60 years unless the Council by a vote of at least two-thirds of the number of members present shall request any such person to continue in his office or appointment for such period thereafter as it shall from time to time determine; or (b) may retire, or upon the direction of the Council shall retire, at any time after attaining the age of 55 and before attaining the age of 60. STATUTE 23 Resignations Any person wishing to resign from any office or membership of any body shall do so by notice in writing. STATUTE 24 Removal fromOffice, Membership or Appointment 1. The Council may for good cause as defined in paragraph 2 remove the Treasurer from his office and any member of the Council other than the Chairman and any person appointed under paragraph 1(k) and (l) of Statute 11 from his membership of the Council. 2. “Good cause” ( 好的因由 ) in paragraph 1 means— (a) conviction of any crime which shall be judged by the Council to be of an immoral, scandalous or disgraceful nature; (b) actual physical ormental incapacitywhich shall be judged by the Council to prevent the proper execution of the duties of the officer ormembership; or (c) any conduct which shall be judged by the Council to be of an immoral, scandalous or disgraceful nature. 3. The Council may for good cause as defined in paragraph 5 remove from their appointments theVice-Chancellor, the Pro-Vice-Chancellors, the Heads of the original Colleges and of ShawCollege, any of the Professors, the Secretary, the Registrar, the Librarian, the Bursar and any other person holding an academic or administrative appointment made by the Council. The Council may and shall if requested by the person concerned or by any 3 members of the Council before such removal appoint a committee consisting of the Chairman of the Council, 2 other members of the Council and 3 members of the Senate to examine the complaint and to report to the Council thereof.
