Sinc e then , more tha n 10 0 teacher s hav e joine d th e Colleg e eithe r o n appointmen t or throug h reaffiliatio n fro m on e o f th e thre e origina l Colleges . Professor Char-nie Chen , Professo r o f Psychiatry , wh o wa s als o ver y experienced in Colleg e affair s wa s made th e firs t Hea d o f Shaw Colleg e b y th e University Counci l w i t h effec t fro m 11t h February , 1987 . A n Assembl y of Fellow s ha s bee n formed , a College staf f ha s bee n appointe d an d th e College i s now full y functional . I hav e ha d th e honou r o f bein g invite d to serv e a s Chairman o f th e Plannin g Committe e a s well a s of the Boar d of Trustee s o f Sha w Colleg e afte r m y retirement . I shal l dedicat e m y efforts t o helpin g th e Colleg e attai n th e targe t o f 1,88 5 student s b y 1993/94, whic h wil l represen t abou t one-fourt h o f th e projecte d tota l student populatio n o f th e University . The Universit y i s indeed ver y gratefu l t o Si r Ru n Ru n an d t o man y other benefactor s fo r thei r goodwil l an d generosity . I a m ver y gla d t o sa y tha t i n th e pas t tw o year s alone , th e University ha s receive d donation s amountin g clos e t o HK$20 0 million , which i s a record i n th e University' s entir e history . Th e Righ t Honourabl e Lord Fulto n o f Falmer , Lif e Membe r o f th e Council , passe d awa y o n 14th March , 1986 . On e o f th e foundin g father s o f thi s University , Lor d Fulton ha d playe d a pivota l rol e i n th e establishmen t an d subsequen t development o f the University.
