The campus-wide local area n e t wo rk service w o u l d further be extended to other computer laboratories in individual faculties and departments. To help boost campus-wide application of information technology, the CSC further strengthened office a u t oma t i on training a nd software licensing service. Clerical a nd administrative staff c o u ld take self-learning courses or lecture series to update their k now l edge. Campus license agreements w i t h most of the important software suppliers we re reached to reduce the cost of operating microcomputers, workstations a nd mainframe. 中心又協助教師製作以電腦及交互式多媒體爲基礎的教學軟 件,在語文教學、建築學、醫學圖像、推介演示等範疇取得滿意 成績,大大增強教學效果。 大型行政資訊系統的開發,亦因應技術發展和用戶需求而起 著 根 本 的 變 化 。 新 開 發 的 大 學 單 項 預 算 控 制 系 統 , 採 用 了以 UN IX 操作系統爲基礎的軟、硬件,和客戶機/服務器結構的聯 機交易處理系統;學生資料如姓名、系、級、上課時間表等,則 利用校園網絡即時供應予有關的校內單位。此外,大學圖書館訊 息系統亦改用以 U N I X 爲基礎的套裝軟件,以加強系統的性能及 處理東方語文的能力。這些項目均顯示校園已進入一個開放式的 資訊科技新紀元。 九五年五月,校方重組電腦運算及資訊服務的架構,改組後 的電算機服務中心及資訊科技服務處,仍將致力向校內各學術、科硏和行政部門提供高質 素的服務。已開展或仍處籌劃階段的項目包括:延伸校園網絡至學生宿舍,引入高速運算 電腦平台,推動地區性國際聯網,參與國內學術單位技術合作項目,提供校友聯網服務, 開發「虛擬現實」而將之應用於教學,以及建立以分散式客戶機/服務器爲基礎的行政管 理系統。 The CSC also assisted teachers in d e v e l o p i ng computer-based interactive multimedia courseware. I n 1994-95, the accomplishments in the area o f language learning, architecture, medical imaging and orientation presentation we re especially prominent. W i t h this n ew tool, instruction and learning gained a totally n ew dimension. The me t h o d o l o gy of developing University administrative applications u n d e r we nt a fundamental change: the development of the One Line Budget Control System was a t y p i c al o n - l i ne t r a n s a c t i on p r o c e s s i ng a p p l i c a t i on w h i c h e m p l o y ed UN I X - b a s ed hardware and software a nd client/server architecture ; student-related information, e.g. partial personal particulars, time-tables, etc., was made available to departmental users t h r o u gh the campus n e t wo r k; and the library automation system was r e v amp ed w i t h a UN I X - b a s ed s o f t wa re package that c o u ld enhance system f u n c t i o n i ng a nd oriental character h a n d l i ng capability. A ll these indicated that a n ew era o f ' o p e n' i n f o r ma t i on technology h ad begun.
