服務香港放眼世界 Service to Hong Kong and the World 放眼世界 At the International Level 過去一年，中大敎研人員運用專業知識為眾多海內外組織和學術機構服務，諸如世界衛生組織、 美國電機暨電子工程師學會、英國皇家婦產科醫學院、美國國家科學院、中國科學院、台灣中央 研究院、新加坡衛生部等。他們或出任專責學術委員會委員，或協助編輯學術期刊，不少更擔任 校外考試委員或研究顧問。 年內在校園舉行的國際會議極多，議題廣泛，包括預防醫學、幽門螺旋菌、抗氧化劑的使用、中 國宗敎與基督敎對希望的詮釋、普通話敎育、兩性角色、地理信息系統等。中大與中國社會科學 院合辦計量經濟學會遠東會議，為香港歷來最大規模的經濟學家會議。中大醫學院並於香港回歸 中國之際，舉行名為「不落的太陽」的廿四小時遠程醫學會議。 不少敎硏人員得到國際學術界表揚，獲頒多項獎譽。李國章校長獲英國皇家醫學會榮譽會士銜， 成為中國首位獲此殊榮的學者；李校長並獲英國愛丁堡皇家外科醫學院頒授榮譽金章。國際著名 物理學家、本校博文講座敎授楊振寧敎授獲中國科學院紫金山天文台以其姓名命名一顆由該台發 現的小行星。菲爾斯數學獎得主、本校數學講座敎授丘成桐敎授則獲頒授美國科學界的最高榮譽 國家科學獎。 In 1996-97, the University's faculty and staff lent their expertis e to many international organizations and academic institutions. Prominent among such institutions were the World Health Organization, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers , the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the US National Academ y of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Academia Sinica in Taiwan, and th e Singapore Ministry of Health. University members served these bodies in various capacities ——as members on special boards and committees, as journal editors and referees, as external examiners of degree examinations, and as project advisers and consultants. To enhance scholarship and promote cultural exchange, numerous international conferences, seminars, and workshops were held on the campus in the course of the year. Major themes ranged from preventive medicine, helicobacter pylori, applications of antioxidants, to Chinese religion and Christianity, Putonghua education , gender roles, an d geographic information systems. 46 服務香港 放 眼世界
