Li being conferred honorary fellowship of the Royal Societyof Medicine through a robotic arm programmed by theDepartment ofMechanical and Automation Engineering Below: US National Medal of Science With the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the University organized the Far Eastern Meeting of the Econometric Society, the largest international conference in Hong Kong for economists. The Faculty o f Medicine also launched a 24-hour global telemedicine conference 'Moving with the Sun' to mark the reversion o f Hong Kong to Chinese sovereignty. During the year, many faculty members were honoured by different international bodies for their outstanding achievements. Vice-Chancellor Prof . Arthur K.C. U was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, being the first academic from China to have received such an honour. He was also awarded the President's Gold Medal of The Royal College o fSurgeons o f Edinburgh. Meantime the Purple Mountain Observatory o f the Chinese A c a d emy o f Sciences named a minor planet after world renowned physicist Prof. C.N. Yang, Distinguished Professor-at-Large o f the University.
