T o cater t o women's needs in continual learning, SC S launched a ne w programme in Women an d Family an d Consumer Studies in November 1996, th e first programme fo r women offered b y an y university in Hong Kong, 支援工商業 In Support o f Business and Industry 中大的亞太工商研究所為管理人員及公司提供培訓、硏究及顧問服務，加強他們的實力，以面對 本港及亞太地區商業發展帶來的新挑戰。過去一年，該所與美國多間著名學府合辦行政人員培訓 課程，也為本地商業機構舉辦研討會，並且開辦九項文憑課程，其中一項與聯合交易所合辦，另 有七項與中大工商管理學院合辦。亞太工商研究所又積極籌備開辦商業傳意文憑課程，以增強商 業行政人員的英語能力，更與聯合交易所合作籌備出版《香港證券業》（前稱《香港證券業參考手 冊》）第三版。 本校年內獲政府工業署資助，開展多項與社會民生有密切關係的研究，包括生產優質香菇、控制 中藥質量以支援中成藥出口、檢測早期子宫頸癌、開發巨型廣東話字彙資料庫，以及成立香港生 物信息中心。 大學電算機服務中心多年來致力提高本地互聯網的服務，並且成立了香港國際互聯網交換中心， 更於一九九七年六月三十日至七月二日，與香港電台合作開創歷史性的四十八小時互聯網直播， 讓互聯網用戶即時收看香港回歸中國的重要儀式和慶祝活動。 一九九六至九七年度共有四千五百八十五名學生自本校畢業，校方期望他們善用在大學所得的知 識和訓練，服務社會，建設香港。 For th e business community, educational programmes and research/consultancy services were provided through th e University's Asia-Pacific Institute of Business (APIB) t o assist managers and companies in meeting business challenges in Hong Kong and th e Asia-Pacific region. During the year 1996-97, several executive training programmes were organized in conjunction with major universities in th e United States; in-company workshops and seminars fo r local companies were also conducted.
