安全事務 校方為校園內八幢最舊的樓宇檢查結構、外牆飾面和防火設 施,並為其中四幢採取補救措施。另外九幢樓宇亦即將接受同 樣的檢查。 校方又密切注視斜坡安全,把校園內可辨別的斜坡列出清單, 並成立了土力監察小組,負責斜坡的緊急及非常維修。為確保 安全,校方已為五十個斜坡評估風險,更為部分斜坡設計或 開展修繞工程;另於一九九九年一月舉辦展覽,提醒校內人士 關注斜坡安全。 大學安全事務處於是年增聘人手,以應付職權範圍擴大的需要。 該處現負責舉辦安全事務訓練班,提供實地檢查服務,審查 (上圖) 修建後的斜坡 (下圖) 科學館全新的實驗室安全設施 (Upper) A stablized slope (Lower) New safety facilities in the laboratories of the Science Centre r e n o v a t i o n a n d u p g r a d i n g During 1998-99, a host of buildings had their faces uplifted and/or facilities renovated and upgraded. They include the University Administration Building, the Institute of Chinese Studies, Pi Ch'iu Building, Siu-Loong Pao Building, the Science Centre (and it s East Block), the Basic Medical Sciences Building, the Humanities Building on Ne w Asia campus and the Cheung Chuk Shan Amenities Building on United campus. The swimming pool at the Benjamin Franklin Centre also had new changing rooms. s a f e t y i ssues In the same year, inspection was conducted on eight of the oldest buildings on campus for structural stability, integrit y of external finishes, and fire safety. Follow-up remedial measures were conclude d for four of them. Nine more buildings were in the pipeline for condition surveys. The stability of slopes was closel y monitored, with 50 slopes undergoing varying stages of assessment, improvement design, or construction to ensure safety. An inventory was established for all identifiable man-made slopes on campus and a Geotechnical Monitoring Unit was set up to undertake emergency and non-routine maintenance works. An exhibition was also held in January 1999 to increase the awareness of the campus community o f slope safety issues. In 1998-99, the University's Safety Office expanded in terms of its range of activities and staff numbers, conducting safety training and on-site advisory inspections, processing safety approvals for laboratory-relate d research grant applications, calibrating radiation measuring instruments for both CUHK and external users, and validating air-system s for fume hoods and biosafety cabinets. Working closely with the Campus Development Office, it contributed to the planning of dangerou s goods stores, the replacement of over 40 decrepit fume cupboards, and the upgrading and renovation of many laboratories in the Science Centre. 校園建設與環境保護 Campus Development and Environmental Protection 74
