學術發展 18 ACADEMI C DEVELOPMEN T 敎與學的素質 一如以往,校方是年不斷監察敎與學的素質,包括定期檢討 保證敎學素質的機制、課程結構及敎學方法。為了進一步 開闊校方與學生之間的溝通渠道,大學敎務會於一九九九年 十月通過在敎務會為每所書院設立一個學生委員議席的建 議,待有關大學規程修訂後即可實行。 為鼓勵各學院檢討學生對通識敎育的需求,並提供合適的通 識敎育科目,大學敎務會議決由二零零零至二零零一年度 起,把大學通識敎育課程三分之一的選修科目範圍,劃作學 院通識敎育範圍,使學生在選擇通識敎育科目時得到更多指 引。 校方亦進一步改良新生必修的普通話、粵語及英語精修課 程,使課程內容更為專精。每所學院均已因應不同學科學生 的需要,開辦各自的語文改善課程。由書院提供的非學分語 文改善課程亦已交由語文敎學單位統籌開辦,讓書院集中 力量開展非形式的語文改善課程及海外遊學計劃。 本校於一九九九年制定資訊科技政策,要求自該年起,所有 本科新生於畢業前須掌握特定的資訊科技能力。校方又於 一九九九年十月設立資訊科技學習中心,為學生提供資訊科 技能力訓練及測試。測試大綱已獲敎務會批准。截至二零零 them, a n initiative was taken, for implementation i n 2000-1, t o assign one-third of th e Elective Area o f the University General Education Programme as th e Faculty General Education Area. The compulsory Intensive Programme i n Putonghua, Cantonese and English wa s further refined i n the year, resulting i n a more focussed programme. Th e Faculty Lanaguage Enhancemen t Programme was extended t o al l faculties t o cater f o r th e needs o f students o f different disciplines. Th e formal non-credit-bearing language enhancement programmes, some o f wh i ch had been delivered b y th e colleges, were al l taken u p b y language teaching units, allowing th e colleges t o focus their attention o n non-formal language enhancement programmes and overseas study tours. The University also introduced i n 1999 a policy o n Information Technology, requiring ne w students o f that year an d al l subsequent years t o achieve a prescribed level of I T proficiency before graduation. A n I T learning centre f o r students t o learn and practise I T skills and t o si t fo r th e I T proficiency test was opened in October 1999. A syllabus f o r th e test was also developed and approved b y th e Senate. By th e end o f July 2000, 2,536 o f the 2,756 first year full-time undergraduate students ha d already passed th e test. Academic Exchange W i t h a n aim t o nurture versatile, open-minded leaders f o r H o ng Kong, th e University has striven t o provide a multifaceted internationalization programme f o r it s students. Joint ventures w i t h overseas institution s ar e conscientiously developed t o infuse international and cross-cultural perspectives into teaching and research. W i t h th e adoption o f a proactive and programmatic approach t o international linkage, th e academic year 1999-2000 sa w a significant increase i n exchange activities between th eUniversity an d academic institutions al l over th e world. F o l l ow i ng th e Vice-Chancellors' and Presidents' F o r um o n Global Tertiary Educatio n held o n campus i n A p r i l 1999, th e University published th e proceedings o fthe conference, wh i ch have served as a guide fo r dealing w i t h ke y educational issues identified b y th e forum.
