No t a b le among t h em ar e th e Institute o f Chinese Medicine, th e Centre fo r th e Advancement o f E-commerce Technologies, th e H o n g K o n g A P E C Study Centre that is attached t o th e H o n g K o n g Institute o f Asia-Pacific Studies ， the H o n g K o n g - Ch i na Brain T u m o u r Research Centre, an d th e Jockey C l ub Centre f o r Positive Ageing. Mo st o f t h em were se t u p i n collaboration w i t h ou r partners i n industry o r academia, i n ma ny cases w i t h financial support f r o m local an d international funding organizations. W e ar e p r o ud o f th e trust that ha s been placed i n o u r research capabilities, an d w i l l make sure that al l resources ar e p u t t o good use . Technology Transfer I n th e area o f technology transfer, 1999-2000 wa s alsoa f r u i t f ul year. A host of n e w technologies developed b y o u r staff i n th e field o f biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, Chinese medicine, an d i n f o r ma t i on technology were successfully transferred t o local and overseas industries an d businesses f o r commercial development an d exploitation. T h e Un i v e r s i ty is f u l ly convinced that o n ly w h e n n e w ideas, inventions, processes, an d technologies are transferred t o th e c o mm u n i ty f o r practical application ca n their impact be extensively an d beneficially felt. T h r o u gh these transfer activities th e Un i v e r s i ty discharges it s responsibility i n serving th e c ommu n i t y, an d w e are determined t o double o u refforts i n this direction. Environmental Audit A n o t h er significant accomplishment wa s th e completion o f a comprehensive environmental audit o f t h e University. T he first o f it s type ever conducted b y a local educational institution, th e audit confirmed that th e ai r o n ou r campus is fresh, th e waters clean, th e landscape green an d inspiring.
