環保週的跳蚤市場一角 A corner of the flea market set up during the Environmental Protection Week wastes were collected weekly, and used books and clothes were collected regularly for donation to charitable organizations. Starting this year, the Building Automation System was introduced to academic buildings on the campus to enable their systems to operate in the safest and most efficient way. Occupancy sensors were also installed in classrooms and student hostels in step with the implementation of a Power Factor Correction Programme to minimize energy wastage. A university-wide energy audit was also conducted during the year. To minimize water consumption, a competition was launched in student hostels to encourage reduced usage. Compared with the year 2000, water consumption in 2002 was reduced by 14 per cent. Apart from that, a network of storm drains, sewers and grease traps were built to segregate natural rainwater, wastewater, and oily waste to prevent contamination. A comprehensive water monitoring plan was being implemented to keep check on water quality.
