Outside Practice/Outside Business Activity The University has regulations governing staff members' participation in remunerative outside practice (OP) and outside business activity (OBA). In order to provide appropriate guidelines to staff members and to identify and deal with cases of non-compliance, a review of the OP and OBA regulations was conducted, resulting in clearer guidelines being documented in the Staff Handbook. Medical Benefits The Hospital Authority introduced on 29th November 2002 a charge on the use of Accident and Emergency (A & E) services at its hospitals. To enable staff members of the University to obtain reimbursement of expenses incurred under emergency situations, the University reviewed and extended the provisions of the Extra Outpatient Consultation Services Scheme to cover A & E service charges. In reviewing its Employees' Compensation (EC) cases during the year, the University took the opportunity to affirm the provision of full-pay EC sick leave to staff members who suffer from work-related injuries within a year from the commencement of their temporary incapacity. Staff members on regular Terms of Service may also utilize their entitled sick leave to extend the full-pay period in case they have to take prolonged EC sick leave beyond the first year.
