傑出研 社會科學院 Outstanding Research Project Faculty of Social Science 打造現代形體——南中國城市文化研究 Modern Bodies in the Making: Urban Cultural Studies in South China 新 聞 與 傳 播 學 院 馬 傑 偉 敎 授 和 研 究 助 理 文 志 成 於二 零 零 一 至 零 三 年 ， 定 期 訪 問 廣 東一 間 工 廠 和 一 間 酒 吧 。 文 志 成 分 別 當工 廠 工 人 和 酒吧 侍 應 三 個 月 ， 而 馬 傑 偉 則 與工 廠 和 酒吧 經 理 接 觸 。 他 們 又 訪 問了 民 工 。 研 究 小 組 從這 些 調 查 點 擴 展 到 其 他 社 會 網 路 作 訪 問 和 參 與 觀 察 。 這 種 調查 設 計 ， 使 研 究小 組 能 考 察中 國 南 方 興 起 的 勞 動 消費 文 化 的 巨 大 變 遷 過 程 ， 如 何 重 塑 民工 的 「 微 觀 生 命一 政 治」 和 生 活 軌 道。 研 究 的 最 後 階 段 包 括 撰 寫 學 術 論 文 和 多 種 形 式 的 文 化 專 案 。 這 個 研 究 計 劃 不 只 探 索 農 村 人口 在 城 市生 活 的 理論 分 析 ，也 促 進 了 香 港 城 市 人理 解 中 國工 人 的 文 化 實 踐 。 研 究 成 果 以 照 片 文 本 展 覽 、 裝置 和 座 談 形 式 ， 分 別 在香 港 藝 術 中心、二零 零三年 香 港 書 節 和 K u b r i c k 書 店 咖 啡 屋 展 示 。 展 覽 後 ， 還 出 版了 一本 非 學 術 類 的 圖 片 書 ， 並曾 促 成 一 個 研 究生 專 題 課 程。 From 2001 to 2003, Prof. Eric Ma of the School of Journalism and Communication and his assistant, photojournalist Man Chi Shing, regularly visited a factory and a disco in Guangdong, South China. Man Chi Shing served as a factory worker and a bar waiter respectively for three months, while Prof. Ma worked closely with the bosses of the factory and the bar. From these research sites, the team branched out to other social networks for interviews and participant observations. This research design enabled the team to examine how micro life-politics and trajectories of rural migrant workers are drastically re-shaped by the macro dynamics of the growing work-and-spend culture in South China. The project concluded with the publication of academic papers and works on various forms of cultural intervention. The project was not only a theoretical exercise to explore urban lifestyle formation of modernity, but also an attempt to foster understanding of Chinese workers among Hong Kong urbanites. A photo-text exhibition, an installation display, and several talks were respectively organized at the Hong Kong Arts Centre, the 2003 Hong Kong Book Festival, and Kubrick Bookstore/Coffee Shop. A non-academic photo book was published after the exhibition. A one-off postgraduate course was also offered at the school to cultivate ethnographic research. 研究 Research 57
