48 Support for the Beijing Olympics The Hong Kong Jockey Club Sports Medicine and Health Sciences Centre, jointly established by CUHK and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was launched in August 2007 with the aim of providing integrated sports medicine and health science services to athletes and the general public. In support of the Beijing Olympics, the centre offered professional services to both mainland and local athletes. Over the past two years, the specialists of the centre have made several visits to the mainland to provide holistic sports medicine treatment to elite athletes from China’s national sport units. Collaborating with the Hong Kong Sports Institute, CUHK has managed to prevent sport-related injuries in the local athletes, enabling them to achieve their best. During the Olympics and Paralympics Equestrian Events 2008 in Hong Kong, the Prince of Wales Hospital, the University’s teaching hospital, played a key role in providing medical services. It was put on standby to receive equestrian athletes in need and was also involved in hospital security, infection control and communication mechanisms. With its proximity to the Hong Kong Olympic Equestrian venue, CUHK organized the ‘CUHK Carnival — In Support of the Olympic Spirit’ in August 2008 which offered community members a wide array of programmes catering for different interests. 支持北京奧運 由中大與香港理工大學合辦的香港賽馬會 運動醫學及健康科學中心，於二零零七年 八月成立，為精英運動員及市民提供綜合 運動醫學及健康科學服務。 中心的專家過去兩年曾多次往返內地，為 國家級體育單位的健兒進行全面的運動 醫學治療，以備戰奧運。中大又與香港體 育學院合作，協助本地選手預防運動創 傷，讓他們在最佳的體能和狀態下發揮潛 能。 在二零零八年奧運及殘奧馬術比賽期間， 中大的教學醫院威爾斯親王醫院隨時候 命，接收需要治療的馬術運動員，並協調 醫院保安、感染控制和訊息發報等工作。 中大毗鄰奧運馬術比賽會場，特於二零零 八年八月舉辦「中大嘉年華─支持奧運精 神」，為廣大市民安排豐富的遊戲和節目， 感染濃厚奧運氣氛。 （左起）中大嘉年華籌委會主席、矯形外科及創傷學講座教授陳啟明教授、 中大校長劉遵義教授、第二十九屆奧林匹克運動會馬術比賽（香港）有限 公司行政總裁林煥光先生、沙田區議會主席韋國洪議員，以及大埔區議員 朱景玄先生主持開幕典禮 (From left) Prof. Chan Kai-ming Cavor, Chairman, Organizing Committee of the CUHK Carnival and Professor, Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, CUHK; Prof. Lawrence J.
