59 教 職 員 Staff • Conference grants: financial assistance was given to 336 staff members for attending academic and professional conferences overseas and in Hong Kong • Reimbursement of training and development expenses: successful applicants were reimbursed for attending job-related seminars, workshops, and training programmes run by external organizations. From 2008, the University has extended its reimbursement policy to cover fees for degree and degree-related programmes • The Centre for Learning Enhancement And Research ran a number of courses and activities designed to support teaching and learning enhancement for teaching staff members. There were some 400 attendances in such events in the year under report Other New Personnel Policies, Services, and Conditions of Service Continuous Appointment and Performance Management With a view to providing greater job security to appointees and retaining quality staff, the University in August 2007 decided to offer Continuous Appointment (CA) to non-teaching appointees on contract meeting the relevant criteria, and implemented the Performance Review and Development System, the Performance- linked Reward Scheme and the Common Incremental Date Scheme as an integral package to enhance performance management. The first batch of such appointments took effect on 1 July 2008. Instructors, senior instructors and teaching fellows on contract may also be recommended for conversion to CA.
