In 1962, Mr. Chen became the head of the Southeast Asia Studies Section of New Asia Research Institute; Senior Lecturer on the History of Southeast Asia by the University in June 1964. In addition to teaching, Mr. Chen has published many articles on the history of overseas Chinese in Southeast Asian areas, including: The Overseas Chinese in the Philippines during the X V I t h century; Brief study on the Family Register o f the Trans, Minh-huong-xa (Thua-thien, Central Vietnam), Catalogue of Imperial Archives o f the Nguyen, Vol. I, I I; An-nam-chi-luoc, revised and annotated; etc. Dr. M a Lin, United College, Chemistry. Dr. Ma Lin attended King's College, Hong Kong; later he went to China and studied at the Middle School attached to the West China Union University, su b sequently entering the department of chemistry at that University and received his B.Sc. degree. During his last years at West China Union he was awarded departmental scholarships. Upon graduation Dr. Ma joined his alma mater as a Demonstrator in Chemistry. Two years later he went to England to pursue post-graduate studies at the University of Leeds, where he was conferred the Ph.D . degree in Protein Chemistry in 1955. Th e next year he became a Fellow of the Sino-British Fel lowship T ru s t in London and was engaged in post- doctorate training, first at University College Hospital, London, and later at St. Jame's Hospital, Leeds. In 1957 Dr. M a returned to Hong Kong and joined the staff of the University of Hong Kong. In 1959 he was promoted from Assistant Lectureship to a Lectureship in Chemical Pathology. F rom this time onwards, Dr. Ma served as an Examiner in Chemistry for the Hong Kong University Matriculation Examina tion. His first association with the Chinese University of Hong Kong was when he became an External Ex aminer in Chemistry of the Post-Secondary Colleges Joint Diploma Examination in 1960, the forerunner of the Chinese University Degree/Diploma Examination. Dr. Ma is a member of several learned societies in London . COLLEGE REPORTS △ The Chung Chi Journal, published by the Chung Chi Institute of Far Eastern Studies, have invited the following members to serve on the editorial board: Dr. Tsang Chiu-sam (Chief Editor), Dr. George H.C. Zia, Mr. Wu Tee. △ Beginning on March 10, New Asia College has held an exhibition of books published recently in the United States on Far Eastern economics, politics, and culture. T h e books were a loan from the U.S.I.S. T h e exhibition was held in the College Library and well attended by book-lovers. △ T h e Hong Kong Post-Secondary Colleges Athletic Association held its Fourth Athletic Meet at the Boun dary Street Public Playground on March 6. Chung Chi College was runner-up in both the men's and women's track events, and won the group champion ship with a score of 144 points. △ T h e Mencius Educational Foundation held its Fifth Post-Secondary Colleges Debate this year. Chong Nyuk Moi and T am Sze Chi of Chung Chi were runners-up in the Mandarin-speaking event and Wing was the champion in the English-speaking event. Chung Chi, for the third time, carried away the team championship. △ New Asia College held a painting and calligraphy exhibition from February 19 to 24 on the eighth floor of the High Block, City Hall. Work exhibited totalled one hundred and thirty which were a joint contri bution of staff and students. △ Mr. Harold Ho, Assistant Lecturer in Social Work, Chung Chi College, has been giving a 40 lecture course in "Youth Group Method" under the Extra-Mural Studies Programme of the University of Hong Kong, Mr. Lao Yung-wei, Assistant Lecturer in Philosophy, Chung Chi College, has, from February 17th, 1965, Philosophy, as part of the Extra-Mural Studies Pro gramme of the University of Hong Kong, in conjunc tion with the Hong Kong Cultural Society. △ Under the sponsorship of the United Board for Christian Higher Education in Asia, Dr. and Mrs. David G. Moses arrived in Hong Kong on March 24 to give a series of lectures on Indian Culture and the Christian Faith at Chung Chi College and the City Hall. Dr. Moses took his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Columbia University and the Union Theological Seminary, New York. He has been the Principal of Hislop College, Nagpur, India since 1939 and is one of the Presidents of the World Council of Churches and Chairman of the East Asia Christian Conference. Dr. Moses will give a series of lectures on the general theme of Indian Culture and the Christian Faith while he is in Hong Kong. 4
