F o r seven years he was Professor and Head o f the D e pa rtm e n t o f E du cation o f N a tion a l Peking U n iv e rs ity , fo r one year he was C hairm an o f the F a cu lty o f A rts o f Changsha P rovisional U n iv e rs ity (la te r know n as N a tio n a l Southwestern Associated U n iv e rs ity ), fo r three years he was Professor o f Education at N a tio n a l C entral U n iv e rs ity , and fo r one year he was Dean o f the F a cu lty o f A rts o f N a tio n a l Cheng C h i U n iv e rs ity . F rom 1938 to 1945 he was D ire c to r o f H ig h e r Education o f the M in is try o f E ducation, and in 1949 and then from 1954 to 1958, he was V ic e -M in is te r o f E ducation. In 1951’ 1954 and 1958’ he was a delegate to the General Conference o f U N E S C O . Since 1937, he has visited the U n ite d States and Europe several times, m ostly on official m issions. T h e last tim e he w ent to the U n ite d States was when he accepted an in v ita tio n o f the U n iv e rs ity o f H aw a ii to take pa rt in the Advanced Scholars Resident Research P rogramme o f the East- W est Centre, fo r a du ra tio n o f five months, from September 1964 to F ebruary 1965, Despite his very heavy teaching and adm in istra tive duties, D r. SOCIAL WORK EDUCATION A Board fo r the Selection o f Undergraduates fo r Social W o rk Education fo r 1965/66 was appointed by the Academ ic P lanning C omm ittee on July 5, 1965. Huang, U n iv e rs ity Assistant Registrar (Secretary) T h e d u ty o f the Board is to select students o f all three Colleges, who have com pleted th e ir second- year courses and taken the required prerequisites, to enter in to the Departm ents o f Social W o rk at either C hung C h i College o r U n ite d College. A test o f one general paper w ill be conducted by the Board to assess applicants' academic standard as well as th e ir p ro ficie ncy in E nglish and Chinese. B oth C hung C h i and U n ite d have a D e pa rtm e n t o f Social W o rk w h ich on ly offers th ird - and fo u rth -y e a f courses leading to a degree o f Bachelor o f Social Science (B.S.Sc.). T h e nature o f the D e p a rtm e n t o f Social W o rk, like the D e pa rtm e n t o f Journalism , tenable at N ew Asia College as from September, 1965, are p ro ­ fessional departments. T h e ir courses are open to students o f a ll three Founda tion Colleges and adm is sions to the Departm ents are on a com petitive basis. S tudents who are to be adm itted in to the Depa rtm ent o f Social W o rk may apply fo r the several scholarships set up by various sources as w e ll as the endowm ent o f the H o ng K o n g and Shanghai Banking Corporation.
