The selection board for the Ho ng K o ng & Shanghai Bank Scholarships shall comprise of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Scholarship and Fellowships ; one representative each f r om the Departments of Social Wo rk in Chung Chi College and Un i t ed College; Representative of the D o n o r ; Director of the Board of Studies in Social Wo r k. T he Secretary to be nominated by the University Registrar. The Scholarships w i ll be publicised each year during the mo n th of Ma y in the Newspapers and by circulars to University Departments and Schools. T he selection board w i ll mee t in August/September each year to consider applications and interview candidiates, to review the progress of scholars, and to make recommendations t o the Senate Committee on Scholarships and Fellowships. The conditions governing the awards w i ll be subject to revision w i th the agreement of the donors f r o m time to time. II. The American Women’s Association I n assisting needy and scholarship quality students i n the Departments of Social Wo rk at Ch u ng Chi College and Un i t ed College of T h e Chinese University of Ho ng Kong , the American Women's Association of Ho ng K o n g has donated three scholarships for 1965/66 i n the amount o f $1,000 for each award so as to enable such students to continue their education where otherwise this wou ld be impossible. T he scholarships shall be k n own as the " Ame r i c an Women's Association Social Wo r k Scholarships" and shall be awarded to students, either in their t h i rd or fourth year pursuing a course leading to the Bachelor's degree of Social Science in the Departments of Social Wo r k at Chung Chi or Un i t ed College. Those who receive thes e scholarships have to wo rk at least two years after graduation for social welfare agencies in H o n g K o ng that are recognized for this purpose by the Vice-Chancellor. T he scholarships shall be awarded to candidate s of sufficient academic ability and of proven case o f hardship in financing their education. I f no candidate of sufficient merit is presented for selection, no award shall be made and the available scholarship w i ll be awarded in the next academic year. Each scholarship shall be of the value of $1,000 per annum for a ma x i mum period of two years and may be held at the same time w i th other scholarships, provided that the total value of all scholarships shall not exceed the amount of $3,200, Te n u re shall be subject to satisfactory academic progress and review of the Senate Committee on Scholarships and Fellowships. T h e awards shall be made irrespective of sex, race, and nationality, but preference shall be given first to candidates whose domicile is in H o ng Ko n g. T he number of awards in 1965/66 w i ll be three. COLLEGE REPORTS A Each year, the Yale-in-China Association donates one to two scholarships to graduates of New Asia Colleg e for studying abroad . Applicants w i ll have to be interviewed by the New Asia Overseas Scholarship Board, and the successful ones can pursue higher studies at any university in the Un i t ed States. T he scholarship provides passages, tuition fees, board and lodging, and miscellaneous expenses for a student wo r k i ng for a Master's degree. A student of special academic distinction w i ll get provision to study for a doctor's degree. T h e successful candidates this year were Miss L aw Sai, a student of English, and M r . Chan K w o ng Yu, a student of Biology. Miss L aw w i ll j o i n the graduate school of Washington University to study Librarian Science, and M r . Chan left on August 6 for the Connecticut State University to study Genetics a t the graduate school. A T he 8th Summer A r t Course of New Asia College held its graduation ceremony at the College Auditorium on August 27. D r . T . C. Ou, the President of the College, officiated at the ceremony wh i c h was attended by ove r two hundred students, parents, and members of staff. M r . Y u Chun-chih, Head of the Department of Fine A r t, and D r . Ou addressed the congregation. One hundred and three students were awarded diplomas by D r . Ou, T h e ceremony ended in later afternoon. A M r . James Pun has been appointe d Assistant Dean of Students and assumed duty o n September 1. A T he Students' Un i on of New Asi a College held a party at the College A u d i t o r i um on Jun e 1 at 7:30 PCM. to commemorate its first anniversary. M r . Lee Jig Chen, the President, officiated at the party wh i ch was attended by DC. AT. C. Lou, Presiden t of the College, M r . Wa ng Chi, A c t i ng Dean of Studies, M r .
